BK YOUTH CO-ORDINATORS GROUP MEETS MRS SONIA GANDHI
Even though it was Mrs Gandhi’s birthday and there were huge crowds waiting to meet her, she gave us personal time, listening and interacting with attention. She was delighted to see an international group representing over 100,000 young BKs in India and abroad. We gave her flowers and a greetings card while Brij Mohanbhai and Ashaben introduced the group. Sr Maureen shared greetings from Dadi Janki and Sr Gopi then explained the idea behind the Choose, Change and Become retreat of helping emerging leaders to understand themselves better, develop a moral compass for living and effecting change from the inside out.
Sr Gabbie (South Africa/UK) explained the importance for her, of intention in action and asked Mrs Gandhi a relevant question: ‘you have experienced many challenges in your life as a leader; what is it that gives you the inner strength to face those challenges? She became very thoughtful and then said that it is important to make your conscience your friend so that it can show you what is right and what is wrong. Your moral values guide your actions and spirituality gives you inner strength.
Brother Banu shared his experience of how young people from India and abroad have inspired each other. ‘Young people abroad have been inspired by India to lead a spiritual life and are now in turn inspiring the youth of Bharat.’
Sr Madhvi (US) presented Mrs Gandhi with information of Spotlight Values, the BK project for the United Nations International Year of Youth. Mrs Gandhi then wished us all the best in ourendeavours.
Following the meeting Sr Gopi was interviewed by Total TV and Star News; she shared the gift that Mrs Gandhi has given to the young people through her inspiring words and the reason for the group being in Delhi for Choose, Change and Become.
